Formed in 1996 in Ajax, Ontario, Sum 41 quickly rose to prominence in the early 2000s with its distinctive fusion of pop-punk, skate-punk, and alternative rock. The original lineup comprised lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Deryck Whibley, lead guitarist Dave Baksh, bassist Jason "Cone" McCaslin, and drummer Steve Jocz.
Their debut album, "All Killer No Filler," released in 2001, catapulted them into the spotlight with hit singles like "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep," becoming anthems of the era. Subsequent albums such as "Does This Look Infected?" (2002) and "Chuck" (2004) further solidified their place in the rock music scene, showcasing their evolution in musical style and exploration of heavier themes.
Sum 41 has encountered lineup changes throughout its journey. Despite the challenges, their resilience and dedication to their craft remained unwavering. Deryck Whibley's public battle with alcoholism and subsequent recovery became a poignant chapter in the band's narrative, influencing their music and lyrical depth.
As they bid farewell to their fans, Sum 41 promises an electrifying performance on "Setting Sum," their final tour before disbanding. Their final show is in Toronto on January 30, 2025.
