Buckle up, Nagoya! The crazy Jtrain that is DERA WAVE 2024 is screeching into Sakae's Tight Rope on Saturday, Oct 5, and it's bringing a lineup that will explode what you thought you knew about the Japanese music scene.
The bill for DERA WAVE is a rap sheet of sonic misfits from Tokyo, psychotic chefs, acrobatic punks, and a local pop princess with some issues she's planning to sort out inside YOUR head.
Tokyo's powerhouse, Vaiwatt, has enlisted the legendary Satsujin Cook, ACROBAT☆SHONEN, and Wooper Risa to transform Nagoya's legendary Tight Rope into a musical asylum where insanity meets artistry.
Vaiwatt
Cos Punk • Heart Core • Manga Rock
The trippy, colorful, and addictive Vaiwatt is here once again to connect Nagoya with the world. Since 2018, they've toured the UK, Russia, Italy, Turkey, and the USA.
Their annual multicultural music festival, EDO WAVE, has been hosted at Shinjuku LOFT since 2021, and they are now bringing their rebellious punk-pop and grunge sound to Nagoya once again! It's a technicolor fantasy, a love missile for all.
Satsujin Cook
Culinary Rock 'n' Roll That's... a Little Disturbing
Satsujin Cook (殺人コック) is a chaotic blend of dark humor, high-energy rock, and theatrical absurdity, creating a truly unique performance that transcends the typical live music experience.
With a name that translates to "Murder Chef," the band doesn't just play music—they deliver a full-blown spectacle. Their concept revolves around a twisted culinary world where members take on grotesque chef personas, using their characters to serve up a metaphorical feast of human flesh.
But don't worry, it's all part of the show... I think.
Acrobat☆Shonen
Pop-Punk Bliss With a 3cm Radius
For a bit of relief from the culinary insanity, Nagoya's very own Acrobat☆Shonen will inject some pop-punk energy into the night. These guys are all about finding happiness in the ordinary, singing about the simple joys within a 3cm radius of daily life.
It's lighthearted, catchy, and makes you want to jump around like a kid who just found a stash of candy. Bonus points go to band member and Ghost of Matsubara impresario Tom Fallon who always delivers a compelling performance.
Formed back in 2007, they've been spreading their brand of good vibes across Japan, and on this night, they'll be right at home with their fellow misfits.
Wooper Risa
The Tender Beat
Nagoya's own Wooper Risa is making her DERA WAVE debut, and the hype machine says we will be blown away by this idol singer-songwriter. Fresh off her second CD, Red (2023), she's already topped the Oricon daily charts—impressive.
I have to admit I don't know much about her, but from what I have gathered, she's got the usual mix of J-pop charm and catchy lyrics. She's sweet, soft, and dreamy–but is there more? Like–is she messing with my head?
I, for one, am there to witness how she follows a bunch of guys who sing about cooking people. But hey–this is what makes Japan great! Teach me, Risa!
DJ PONつよ
The Master of Mayhem
No wild night would be complete without a DJ to keep things rolling between sets, and DJ PONつよ is the man for the job. Known as the human loudspeaker and Edo's Festival King, this guy brings the party wherever he goes.
Expect him to have the crowd shouting, dancing, and demanding more drinks with his infectious energy. If the bands don't get you going for some reason, PONtsuyo will ensure you feel the DERA WAVE spirit.
