(Note: this event ends September 30)
What is a Weir?
A weir is a barrier built across a river or stream to alter its flow characteristics. It is typically used to manage water flow, measure discharge, and raise the water level upstream. Weirs can serve various purposes, including water management, environmental conservation, and recreational activities. At Oiden Yana, the weir creates a perfect setting for fishing, as it helps maintain a steady flow of clear water ideal for catching ayu (sweetfish) with your hands!
The Fishing and BBQ Experience
At the Oiden Fishing Weir, the star attraction is undoubtedly the hands-on fishing experience. Visitors can try their hand at catching ayu directly from the weir. This interactive activity is a hit with kids and adults, offering a fun and educational way to learn about fishing. The weir’s clear waters make the activity even more enjoyable, and there's nothing quite like the thrill of catching your own fish!
After working up an appetite from fishing, you can head to the BBQ area by the river. The BBQ setup includes everything you need for a delightful meal in nature. The site offers grilled ayu, a local delicacy, and gohei mochi, a rice cake with a walnut miso glaze. You can also enjoy ayu rice, ramen, and a variety of beverages.
The BBQ area operates from 10:00 to 16:00, with night BBQ sessions available from 18:00 to 21:00 for groups of five or more.
Make a Reservation
