A Journey Through Dimension and Texture - Aya Hayakawa Solo Exhibition
In her first solo exhibition at the new Gallery Marquise, artist Aya Hayakawa presents "ROLLING," a compelling exploration of undulation and texture through her unique combination of oil painting and soldering techniques. Born in Gifu Prefecture in 1993, Hayakawa has developed a distinctive artistic method that challenges traditional boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.
Hayakawa's work is characterized by its deceptive simplicity - clean lines and carefully chosen colors create abstract compositions that seem to float between dimensions. What sets her work apart is her innovative use of solder as a drawing medium alongside traditional oil paints. This unconventional approach creates fascinating textural contrasts and adds an industrial element to her otherwise organic compositions.
The exhibition's title, "ROLLING," refers to the undulating movements found in waves and terrain, a theme that perfectly captures the fluid nature of Hayakawa's work. Each piece begins with the artist's personal observations and experiences, which she refines through repeated sketching until only the essential elements remain. The result is a collection of works that achieve a delicate balance between complexity and restraint.
Since graduating from the Oil Painting Department of Aichi Prefecture University of the Arts in 2016, Hayakawa has been actively exhibiting throughout central Japan. Based in Gifu City, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including shows at prestigious venues like JILL D' ART GALLERY and Masayoshi Suzuki Gallery. Her work has consistently evolved, with "ROLLING" representing her latest artistic development.
