Sakae

If you are looking for shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife, Sakae is the place to go. Nagoya's midtown district bustles with activity both day and night. The city's three main thoroughfares, Hirokoji-dori, Nishiki-dori, and Sakura-Dori, traverse Sakae from east to west and intersect with Hisaya-Odori and Otsu-dori, the area's main north-south boulevards.

Sakae's grid-based street pattern makes it easily navigable and pedestrian-friendly. The wide major thoroughfares are artifacts of the former airstrips used by American forces following World War 2.

Hisaya-odori Park and the Mirai Tower


The revitalized area around the former Nagoya TV Tower (renamed the Mirai Tower) houses an upscale hotel and cafes with outdoor seating. Hisaya-odori Park below the tower features pleasant restaurants and shops. It is limited to pedestrians who come to enjoy a respite from the city, especially on pleasant days.

Shopping

The area is a shopper's paradise. Starting at the giant Ferris wheel attached to the Sunshine Sakae building in the Nishiki district and winding south along Otsu-dori, you will find row after row of the city's largest department stores and brand-name shops.
