Nagoya Players Announces Auditions for Provocative New Drama "Scenes from a Bad Film"
Nagoya's longest-running English-language theater company is set to tackle bold new territory with their upcoming production "Scenes from a Bad Film Lived Out in Real Time," written by local multimedia artist and Nagoya Players Creative Director Shawn Mahler.
This thought-provoking contemporary drama examines the intricate tapestry of human relationships through a raw, unflinching lens. The play weaves together multiple character narratives, exploring themes of identity, family dynamics, and the moral complexities that shape our modern lives. Through sharp dialogue and nuanced character development, Mahler's work promises to challenge audiences while offering deep insights into the human condition.
Auditions
Auditions for this exciting production will be held on Sunday, January 26, and February 2, 2025, at IPE Academy in Imaike. The production team is seeking both experienced performers and newcomers to theater, with multiple roles available ranging from major to supporting characters. Some roles will incorporate dance and movement elements, and interested performers should prepare a short dance routine or be ready to improvise during their audition.
The production will be helmed by playwright Shawn Mahler himself, with Valeriya Takazato serving as both Assistant Director and Choreographer. Rehearsals are scheduled for Sundays at Uchiyama Community Center in Imaike, leading up to performances on September 27-28, 2025.
