Kye's Story
For Kye Goski, music is more than just a passion—it's a bridge that spans countries, cultures, and generations. With each note he plays and each lyric he sings, he pays homage to his heritage while forging a path uniquely his own—a testament to the transformative power of music and the enduring spirit of a young musician born of two worlds.
Kye was born in Toyota, the "Motor City" of Japan. But he has lived most of his life surrounded by the lush landscapes of Vancouver Island, Canada.
As he prepares a return to his birthplace to perform for the first time, his musical journey takes him to the stages his father, Bob Goski, haunted some two decades ago. From the rustic ambiance of Armadillo to the intimate setting of Rosemary Hart, each venue serves as a poignant reminder of where he came from and a contrast to where he has lived and grown as a musician.
While Kye had always shown interest in music, it became a full-on love affair at age nine when his family went to a gig at a local folk club in Canada.
There, Kye first felt that zap of connection that all musicians and music lovers can relate to. He found himself captivated by live performances.
So he got himself a fiddle, his first instrument of choice, and delved headfirst into mastering it. He quickly became a regular at the same folk club which had sparked his interest in performing. Audiences responded to both his talent and his passion for music.
As his creative journey unfolded, Kye incorporated singing into his repertoire, picking up a guitar along the way. Yet, despite exploring other musical genres, folk music has always held a special place in his heart.
Kye's music exudes a timeless charm, influenced by the legendary Canadian folk musicians Gordon Lightfoot and James Keelaghan. It weaves together tales of love, loss, and the human experience.
Performing at Rosemary Hart - April 4
On April 4, Kye will perform solo at Rosemary Hart, a cozy venue steeped in history and charm, nestled amidst the backstreets of Nagoya. It's where his father once roamed, soaking in the sounds of local bands you usually don't see at the more international spots where foreign acts predominate. Here, Kye will share his passion for music with a whole new audience.
