A Night of Genre-bending Sounds
Get ready for a night of energetic performances at KD Japon on July 2, featuring two unique bands that blur genre lines. The Evening News will showcase tracks from their innovative EP "New World," while Nagoya's very own Penguinrush will captivate with their jazz-infused sound.
The Evening News
The Evening News, an instrumental dance/electronica powerhouse, has been turning heads since its days as Beatnik Collective. The band has reinvented itself with a fresh lineup and an even fresher sound. The band—Dan Rock, Winton Findlay, Christy Wositzky-Jones, and Miles Henry—draws influences from projects like Gymnastics in the Seventies, Godoggo, Skinny Wizard, and Honey.
Their upcoming EP, "New World," promises to push boundaries, fusing influences from IDM legends like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher with house and nu-jazz. Expect a thrilling blend of live instrumentation and electronic vibes. Their live shows are a spectacle of energetic, danceable grooves and intricate rhythms.
Penguinrush
Penguinrush is a four-member band from the side street Nagoya Jazz clubs. It is known for its genre-blending music and for delivering an impressively compelling sound with distinctively rich melody lines. This iconoclastic approach evokes an overwhelming sense of incongruity with the "smile and clap your hands together" vibe of the current J-POP scene.
Penguinrush is fresh off adding their newly released "真善美" (Shinzenbi) featuring tracks such as "蒼炎" (Sōen), "limit," "Rubia," and "二つの明日" (Futatsu no Ashita) that add to an already impressively fat discography.
