Nagoya's music scene is about to get lit! Three of this town's hardest-working local bands—StarKat, The Jerks, and Dragonfly—are taking the stage at Seven Bridges Road, formerly The Plastic Factory.
This venue has long been the artistic and musical hub for the city's international community. With so much raw energy in a place jumping with the vibration of history, it's time to take a moment and celebrate its rebirth with electrifying performances and ear-popping beats.

Band Genesis and Raw Beginnings
The Jerks
The Jerks' story kicked off over eight years ago when Ron Schroter was asked to open for a friend's band, Cacti Lights. "You can play solo or bring a band," he was told. Ron didn't have a band but quickly roped in Tony on bass and Jay on drums. Two practice sessions later, they were rocking the stage. Over the years, the lineup has evolved, but the band's driving core – having fun and making music – has stayed the same. Now, with Go shredding on lead guitar and Eugene on drums, The Jerks keep the energy high and the vibes good.
Dragonfly
Dragonfly, led by Nagoya legend Bob Vidler, started as a three-piece acoustic rock band. Bob connected with drummer Yoshimine Kondo through Brian Cullen's Coindrop 62. Bassist Frank Peddie came on board through a Nagoya Musicians Facebook post. Electric guitarist Go, now with The Jerks, joined later, adding depth to their sound. Though the lineup has seen changes, their commitment to tight, original performances remains unwavering. The current lineup, including Frank, electric guitarist Ryo Mihashi, and drummer Jonathan Ueda, brings unique talents that keep Dragonfly flying.
StarKat
StarKat's journey began when Stewart Gale transitioned from an electro-pop band to forming a rock group with keyboardist Cris. Tate was recruited on guitar, and Aki joined on bass, later moving to the second guitar. Despite numerous lineup changes, the core trio of Tate, Aki, and Stewart has remained, joined by bassist Masayoshi. This show will mark the debut of their new drummer, Josh Brunotte.
Sonic Evolutions
Initially StarKat was influenced by a series of one-night stands with more than a few styles. Now they've honed their music to be edgy and catchy
The Jerks
Staying true to their roots, The Jerks' music is heavily influenced by 90s rock and The Beatles. Starting with a mix of covers and originals, they've recently focused on creating more of their own material. This upcoming performance will showcase two new tracks, reflecting their evolving creativity. Known for their "party band" reputation, The Jerks bring an energetic and fun stage presence that keeps crowds coming back for more.
Dragonfly
Dragonfly's music has evolved significantly from acoustic beginnings to a more electric, guitar-driven sound. Initially playing Bob's solo tracks, they shifted to a collaborative songwriting approach, resulting in richer, more dynamic compositions. Blending classic rock influences with modern touches, their melodies and rhythms appeal to a wide audience. Adding Ryo's guitar effects and Jonathan's drumming has enhanced their live shows, making them more compelling and vibrant.
StarKat
StarKat's sound has grown more refined and cohesive over time. Initially influenced by a series of one-night stands with more than a few styles, they've honed their music to be edgy and catchy. The band members have become more proficient with their instruments, leading to tighter performances and efficient songwriting. Drawing from bands like Fountains of Wayne, Blur, and The Kinks, StarKat creates music with plenty of hooks that linger with the audience long after the show ends.
Making it Happen
Frank, Dragonfly's bassist, is the band's soul, providing stability and creativity
The Jerks
Ron and Tony share vocal duties, and Tony also handles bass and beatboxing. Go's guitar solos and Eugene's versatile drumming complete the lineup. Their laid-back approach to music and focus on having a good time make every performance a lively, enjoyable experience for the band and the audience.
Dragonfly
Frank, the bassist, is the band's soul, providing stability and creativity. Bob brings original songs to rehearsals, where the band collectively refines them. Ryo's electric guitar adds depth and color, while Jonathan's drumming anchors their sound. This collaborative process ensures that each member's contributions are valued, resulting in a cohesive and dynamic musical output.
StarKat
StarKat's songwriting begins with Stewart's lyrics, written like poems, before any music is composed. Tate creates guitar riffs, and together with the band, they develop songs in the studio. Aki's role as the second guitarist and Masayoshi's bass lines add layers to their sound. With Josh's fresh energy on drums, StarKat's dynamic is ever-evolving and collaborative.
